From September 20th to 22nd 2024, the picturesque town of Biot in the south of France hosted the Biot International Glass Festival. This festival draws artists, collectors, and glass enthusiasts from across the globe. At this year’s festival we had a large Irish representation from GSoI. Roisin de Buitlear was part of the organising committee and assisted with the hot shop demonstrations. She also had her collaborative piece with fashion designer, Sarah Ward-Hendry, in the Fusion Fashion Show. Laura Quinn was invited to exhibit at the festival’s prestigious international exhibition, “Glass is Biotiful IV”. Jennifer Hackett, Kathyrna Cuschieri, Alision Mac Cormac, Ruzita Ruane, Clare Bowe and Deirdre Maine all had work in the Fusion Fashion Show which are now on exhibit in the Museum at Biot till November 3rd. Aoife Soden had two Mayors visit her hot shop demonstration at Verrerie Farinelli.
One of the festival’s most anticipated events The Fusion Fashion Show took place on the opening evening, Friday September 20th. The Glass Fashion Show is an opportunity for festival-goers to witness the intersection of two creative worlds-fashion and glassmaking. It’s a celebration of the versatility of glass, not just as a decorative medium but as something that can be both artful and functional.
The whole festival was an extraordinary celebration of the art of glassmaking, bringing together a stunning array of contemporary glass art, cutting-edge techniques, and creative collaborations in a town that has long been synonymous with glass craftsmanship.
Thank you so much to Madame Ernest who curated this festival. It truly was a wonderful experience for us all and we hope to be back to visit the next Biot International Festival. Thank you to the photographers for sharing their images with us. Credit – Photographer Gianni Perrone – All Images in Gallery Below
